Over 20,000 foreign nationals have already visited Belarus visa-free, Aleksei Begun, the head of the Citizenship and Migration Department at the Interior Ministry of Belarus, BelTA reports.
The official added that the statistics related to the 5-day visa-free travel is monitored real-time.
“Since 12 February, more than 20,000 visa-free travelers have taken advantage of this travel opportunity [via Minsk airport – note BelarusFeed]. They come for short-term purposes such as business and tourism,” he specified.
Aleksei Begun also commented on crossing Belarus-Russia border by foreigners.
“We are working with our colleagues almost in an online mode. We send them lists of violators who leave for the Russian Federation. These matters will be discussed at a joint meeting. We will try to work out mutually acceptable control systems,” he said.
Russia has tranferred all flights from Belarus to international terminals of the airports starting 15 May. Foreign citizens flying to Russia via Belarus now go through additional border control.
Meanwhile, Belarus keeps extending travel opportunities for foreign visitors.
In addition to 5-day visa free entry via Minsk airport for citizens of 80 states and a visa-free zone in Grodno region, Belarus mutually abolished visas with Brazil in November 2016 and Argentina starting May 2017.
At present talks are underway about mutual 30-day visa-free entry with China.
