About 4 thousand athleted and coaches and 7,000 as volunteers, journalists and other officials.
This event will be the largest sports event ever held in Belarus, Head of the Directorate of the Second European Games Georgy Katulin told journalists on 1 September during the ceremony of signing a contract for hosting the Second European Games.
“Despite the experience from other international competitions, the organizers of 2019 European Games are will face a serious challenge. Belarus has never hosted such a large-scale event before. About 11,000 participants will be accredited for the European forum. Apart from 4,000 athletes and coaches Minsk will welcome volunteers, reporters, and various officials,” Katulin said.
The contract for the 2nd edition of the sports event is different from the contact of the First European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, BelTA writes.
“The Games in Minsk in 2019 will be held with the help of partners. A common marketing program is one of the key points. In line with the program revenues from the European Games in Minsk will be split between Belarus and the European Olympic Committees”, the Head of the Directorate stated.
“The organizing committee in Belarus will bear the bulk of the cost of accommodating, food and ground transportation. The European Olympic Committees will cover travel expenses of all delegations and officials on their way to Minsk,” the official revealed.
The 2nd European Games will take place on 21-30 June 2019 in Minsk. Their program includes 15 sports: badminton, 3×3 basketball, boxing, wrestling (freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, women’s wrestling), cycling (track cycling and road bicycle racing), gymnastics (artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, acrobatics, aerobics, and trampoline), rowing (kayak and canoe competitions), judo, karate, track and field athletics, sambo, archery, shooting (including clay target shooting), table tennis, and beach football.
As many as 189 medals will be awarded in 23 disciplines.
Belarus was granted the right to host the 2nd European Games during the 45th session of the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees in Minsk in October 2016.
